10.5% Game Sales Drops in Japan

Enterbrain reports $2.66 billion of game sales in first half of fiscal year, Dragon Quest IX, Pokemon lead Nintendo-platform-only software top 5.NPD Group reported that US game industry is suffering a sale drop of 14 percent during the last six months of 2009, with a total of $8.16 billion. Famitsu, the publisher of Enterbrain is then released its game industry sales amount for the first half of Japan from March to September.

Enterbain report showed most of the gamer are across the Pacific with the six month game industry revenue dropped 10.5 percent starting from $2.66 billion in year 2008. Hardware figure dropped 15.1 percent to $901 million and software sales dropped 7.5 percent to nearly $1.48 billion.

Nintendo DS became the top in the first half year with selling 1.7 million units. This figure includes the DSi which introduced since last November in Japan. Sony PSP sold over 813,600 units with the release of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Wii sold over 594,398 units and PS3 on the record of 581,676 units with the introduction of PlayStation 3 Slim. Xbox 360 sold only 137,000 units in last six months.

The top five software titles for the last six months are all either for Wii of DS. Square Enix;s DS Dragon Quest IX sold over 3.9 million units and Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver selling over 2 million copies on DS as well. Wii Sport Resort sold Wii MotionPlus to closely 1.2 million consumers and Tomodachi Collection sold about 1.15 million units. The Capcom’s Monster Hunter 3 Tri on Wii sold over 908,000 units for the half year.
