Ikaruga is a vertically scrolling shooter video game developed by Treasure Co. Ltd. ‘Ikaruga’ literally means grosbeak, a kind of bird, in Japanese. The XBox Live Arcade version was released not long ago. Unlike most scrolling shooter games, the most special part of Ikaruga is the polarity mechanic. All the ships in the game come in either one of two polarities. Bullets with the opposite polarity compared to the player’s ship can kill the player, whereas bullets of the same polarity can be absorbed and fired back with a special attack.
