Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson) has claimed that Microsoft has no plans to introduce a Blu-ray drive for the Xbox 360, despite apparent comments to the contrary from CEO Steve Ballmer. The director of programming for Xbox Live, Larry Hryb (aka Major Nelson) commented that Microsoft has no plans to initiate the use of Blu-ray drive in their Xbox 360 gaming platform. This is against what had been mentioned by the CEO Steve Ballmer earlier.

Hryb, writing on his popular blog claimed that Steve was referring to Blu-ray accessories for the desktop but not on their famous gaming platform. He emphasized that they have no plans to integrate the Blu-ray drive into their Xbox 360.

Many observed that the statement from Steve did not appear to support his earlier apparent comment on in the rest of his interview. He was always making a wrong comment about the Xbox business, for which a Blu-ray peripheral appears to make little pratical or strategic sense.

Microsoft is continuing focus on downloadable movie content through their gaming platform. Hryb added soon Xbox 360 will become the first and only console to offer online streaming HD movies. Xbox 360 owners can instantly watch the movies they desired, at any time in the highest 1920 x 1080 definition.
